Modern Love or Modern Art?

Actually it's neither, but the staff at the RBR was just listening to a song by that title and it was wound up being typed for the headline. Rain and fog limited visibility at the volcano today, and even the web cam was out of operation. Bird decided to take the day off as well and rest up. The rain also kept most of the sightseers away from the mountain.
What we have here is an infrared picture of Mt. St. Helens taken by NASA scientists on the morning of the first steam and ash eruption at the volcano last week. Using this photo was key in the scientists' predicting the imminent eruption. The science advisory group at the RBR World Headquarters thought the picture was definitely cool and they interupted their study of yeast fermintation to suggest that it be posted here. The editorial staff agreed that it was more interesting than watching dough rise and added the picture to the site.
In this color composite, blue indicates the snow cover, orange and yellow colors are characterizing the rock type and lava age, and the red color is indicating heat. North is at the top of the photo.
NASA has a very interesting article on the photo and you may read it by clicking here.
