Swamp Thing

Bird arrived in the Pacific Northwest late last night and settled into a small swamp to the north of the Mt Helens. This swamp lies in the blast zone from the May 1980 eruption. Fallen trees from that blast are still visible in the area as the fog was lifting this morning.

After breakfasting on some swamp critters Bird did a flyover of the lava dome in the volcano and reported nothing more than warm steam, which felt rather like Florida to his tired wings. The earthquakes continue to happen, though not with the frequency of yesterday. Scientists now believe that an "event" of some sort is imminent, though most suspect, and hope, that it will be confined to the crater itself.

Bird would like to offer apologies to the U S Geologic Service for the problems he caused by flying too closely at the webcam, prompting calls from local residents watching the cam that an Apocalypse was apparently upon them.
It was a rough flight to the volcano from the RBR World Headquarters and Bird was intent on getting straight to work. As he flew by there was this delicious looking insect just at the top of the encolsure and Bird stopped to remove it.

Bird will be visiting other sections of the volcano today with the camera tucked securely under his wing and the RBR will update the site as reports are received.

The RBR was also remiss in not pointing out the post updating the missing New Hampshire flamingos was a milestone of sorts. It marked the 100th post for the RBR. A suitable beverage was consumed in its honor.
