Family Album - II
One of the stirring stories of history is that of Alexander the Great. Not only did he conquer almost the entire semi-civilized world, but he founded the great library at Alexandria which wound up being a great center of learning. Archimedes was among the folks to study there.
Needless to say, Alex had some great advice, beginning in his early teenage years from a trusted advisor. While growing up in Macedonia one of Bird’s distant relatives (Mitri) was his constant companion and one he came to trust for his sage advice. Mitri is shown here in a painting of the young Alexander.
Of course, sweet Alex had a problem with his domineering mother, Olympias, which was the reason Mitri one day said to him, “Look, if she’s such an expletive deleted - just go out and conquer the world to make her proud of you. It at least gets you away from home. And for Zeus' sake take Hephaestion with you. She's jealous of that kid.”
Heeding the advice - off they went, subduing Greece, Asia minor, Egypt and North Africa, west to Syracuse and on into Asia. Mitri continued to provide intelligence. The Persians and Uzbeks thought so highly of flamingos that Mitri could land, be adored for awhile, gather information and flap out without raising any suspicions. The Hindus proved to be a different story but Mitri decided not to have a cow over the situation.
In a later etching of Alex you will notice the respect he had for Mitri in the breast-piece of his armor. Alexander died on June 11, 323 on the Steppes of Central Asia.
On November 24 a new movie will open about Alex, but since Oliver Stone is the director one can assume that there will be connections to the Kennedy assassination plots. The movie is entitled Alexander The Great, which should tell you how much imagination went into it. Bird will not be doing a cameo appearance since word has it that Stone has substituted a picture of Alex’s supposed gay lover Hephaestion on the armor instead of what was really there. Sad, and no respect for Mitri.
