Flyover 

The USGS helicopter was able to get airborn this evening, after Bird left for his evening flyover of the Mt. St. Helens volcano. The folks in the 'copter snapped this picture of Bird in his flight suit just prior to his dropping the Gas-X into the ash and steam plume coming from the lava dome in the crater.

Following the flyover Bird moved on to a site near the Johnston Observatory (where the webcam is located) to help evacuate people from that area. The RBR hopes to have those pictures up early tomorrow morning.
