On the Scene

As reported below Bird is remaining in the Pacific Northwest to assist the USGS and other agencies and authorities in monitoring the ong-going saga at Mt. St. Helens. The mountain continues to shake and rattle and pressure again seems to be building in the lava dome in the crater. Scientists expect another eruption shortly.

Earlier this morning it was deemed unsafe for the helicopter to do the morning flyover so Bird volunteered, and returned safely. He reported nothing unusual in the crater, though he did drop half a dozen bottles of Mylanta into the crater. Authorities hope the Mylanta provides more lasting relief than the Alka Seltzer that was dropped in yesterday. The cherry flavor was used today in hopes of fooling the mountain into thinking a virgin was being sacrificed in its honor. A shipment of Gas-X is enroute to the area and will be dropped in the crater on the evening flyover (fresh mint flavor).

Bird will also be doing the evening flyover and The RBR hopes to have crater pictures posted later today. As always - Bird news as it happens.
