Ode to Florida
The RBR would be very remiss if it failed to mention the three shark attacks along the Florida Gulf Coast in the last ten days, all apparently by bull sharks (pictured here). With this in mind Bird wrote the following....
Roll on, great waters
Roll into eternity
Thou great creator of the life
Roll on, roll on, oh noble sea.
In thy waters dwell the fish,
The fish that swam with Noah's ark.
In thy waters all abound
In thy waters dwells the shark.
Oh great beast that dwelleth there
Beast that no one can subdue,
Nasty temperament and all
Beast that biteth man in two.
Swimmers in the water there,
Sailors and surfers too
Coming out with legs and arms
Bitten off - shame on you.
Shame, shame, shame I say
Innocent men dead and gone
Killed and eaten by all of you
And I tell you that it's wrong.
Oh that someday there will come
Someone who can deal with you,
A man so great, a man so strong
That he can biteth sharks in two.
