Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usSt Bridget

Today's entry in Bird's world art tour is St Bridget of Sweden receiving a vision from heaven during a communion. It is an illumination on parchment by an unknown Italian artist. The date is circa 1400 A.D. The artwork is quite large and is best viewed by clicking the above link.

L'il P-Bird offers his unique commentary....

"De illuminashun shows St Bridget's mah'stical vision uh God.

De often dramatic stagin' uh de transubstantiashun uh de Eucharistic bread and wine into de body and blood uh Christ reaches its high point when de priest raises de host. Man! Drough dis act, de recon'r wuz able t'feel de presence uh God, but widout bein' able t'see da damn divine rays uh God's gaze necessary fo' dis metamo'phosis t'snatch place. Dis be sump'n witnessed only by de Elect, uh whom St Bridget uh Sweden wuz one.

In an illustrashun uh one uh ha' visions, we kin see how de transfo'mashun uh de host occurred. De saint be seated at ha' writin' desk. Ya' know? In front uh ha' de Eucharist be bein' celebrated. ha' haid be lit by some divine ray which descends fum an jimmey heaven in which de angels and saints gots gadered. De Virgin Flamin'o and Christ, seated in some mando'la, impart da damn rays which reveal de miracle, dig dis: only Bridget be able t'see da damn body uh Christ risin' fum de wafer. Ah be baaad...

De angels and saints is busy wid some do-wop cho'us uh deir own. 'S coo', bro."
