Big Doings in Illinois
The annual Flamingo Follies party will be 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 29, at the Quad-City Botanical Center, featuring 70 artistically altered pink flamingo lawn ornaments, festive finger foods, a cash bar, entertainment and a live auction of the most popular flamingos as chosen by the visitors' votes. The flamingos are mosaic-tiled, painted with scenes, glittered, dipped, flowered, sanded, sequined, feathered, and made to look like a Texas sheriff, Bix Beiderbecke and a flamingo.
The doors open at 6 p.m., with food served until 8 p.m. Entertainment will include Hawaiian dances performed by members of the Philippine-Association and a performance by Comedy Sportz. The live auction will begin at 8 p.m., followed by Jimmy Buffett tunes and tropical music. There also will be an award for the best-dressed flamingo guest.
Tickets are $10 ($8 for center or Parrot Head members), available at the center or by phone at (309) 794-0991, extension 28.
