Ahhh, Missouri in April 

Missouri isn't usually thought of as a tourist mecca, but Independence, Missouri is the place to be in early April this year. The entire downtown of Independence will be celebrating Flamingo Days. Here's a press release from the city with the complete schedule.

"More than 1,000 pink flamingos will be for sale during the three days, shops will display their spring and summer merchandise. Money raised will benefit Community Services League and Independence Square.

April 6, 12-6 pm.- 'March of the Mingos' - the decorated flamingos will be paraded by Square merchants to Flamingo Central, 205 W. Lexington, at noon when sale of Mingos begins. There will be Mingo-mule rides and other events.

April 7, 12- 7 pm. - Mingo sale continues. From 6-7 pm, 'Flamingle at Ophelia's', a wine tasting event.

April 8, 10 am -X pm - Mingo sale continues. Children's events and contests around the Square during the day. At 7 pm, 'Bid on the Birds' Silent Aution at Flamingo Central, with emcee Donna Pitman of Channel 9, entertainment provided. Flamingos decorated by sports teams, media personalities and other local celebrities will be up for auction. Other flamingos for auction will be dressed with special prizes and gifts."

Bird encourages his local fans to join in the festivities and to adopt a flamingo. Giving a loving home to a Mingo will bring you good luck and a few laughs in life.
