mmmmmm...Good!

This artwork is by Pieter Claesz (1597-1660), a Dutch artist. The work is titled Still Life with Roemer and Oysters and is currently on display at the Ntional Gallery of Art in Washington (though one suspects that with a hungry flamingo in the picture the oysters have long since vanished).
One interesting point here....Paintings depicting aspects of the natural world were so characteristic of the Netherlands that, during the seventeenth century, the Dutch words stilleven and landschap were adopted into English as "still life" and "landscape".
Just a reminder - six days until haggis season.
