Viva Espana

The pictures here aren't from the ongoing tragedy in New Orleans, they are from a recent festival in Bunyol Spain, near Valencia, called La Tomatina (The Tomato). The festival is held the last week of August each year.

The rules and history of this event are clearly explained here, but essentially you go to this charming little town in Spain, rip off your shirt and even more if you're so inclined, and spend a week drinking copious amounts of wine and beer, and then when you and everyone else is good and drunk, you jump into the town plaza with about 35,000 other drunks and hurl 120 tons of tomatoes at each other for two hours.

While the official vacation schedule for the RBR World Headquarters doesn't come out until St. Andrew's Day (November 30) the human resources department advises that they are overwhelmed with employees filing early exemptions for next year's schedule, and the last week of August is one hot week.

Bird has also decided that this seems like much safer fun than running in front of crazy bulls at the Festival of San Fermin in Pamplona in July. Simply by lookinig at these pictures Bird is advising any employees who venture to Bunyol next August to avoid eating anything that is prepared with tomato sauce.

Spaniards know how to party!
