When Flamingos Attack

One thing one does not want to do is irritate the subspecies of flamingos known as phenocopterus ruber new hampshirus. They can get a little testy.

As witnessed by the photo at the left there is a small problem in Nashua, NH and the the battling birds have joined the fray. It seems someone wants to build a home on some property that is behind some currently existing homes and build an overly long driveway to access the new home. The case is somewhat complicated, and like any true story of America there are plot twists, sub plots, politics and flamingos involved.

In brief the land under proposed development was to have been served by a street, and the plans to build that street were abandoned years ago and the property ceeded to the owners of the land abutting it.

The developer intending to build the home filed to have the driveway built and that is when the fun really began as the owners of the existing homes in that area insisted that if they were going to develop the property then the abandoned street plans should be reinstated. You can read the whole story here, but the important part is that one of the folks involved has called out the big guns and fourteen flamingos are now protesting the situation on what will probably be known as Flamingo Road.

Bird does not involved himself in politics, but he will be visiting New Hampshire to mediate the dispute in hopes of avoiding violence. Bird is more than aware of the trouble attacking flamingos can cause and he suspects the town fathers of Nashua are not familiar with this potential threat of birds gone wild!

It appears that the winter of our discontent is fading and the testiness of spring is upon us. Bird will start with the trip to New Hampshire before checking on the North Dakota pelicans and the recent Sasquatch sighting in northern Manitoba. A bird's gotta do what a bird's gotta do!
