The Pelican Conspiracy

It certainly didn't take long for some of the world's wackos to chime in on the 27,000 missing pelicans.

According to Wiley Streiber's Unknown Country the following is the likely explanation:

"One cause could be the impending pole shift, in which the Earth's magnetic fields will reverse. The magnetic fields have already started to move, which has confused some migratory birds, causing them to end up in the wrong destination."

Of course Mr. Streiber ignores the fact that the other island in the lake and the one peninsula are still populated with pelicans. Undaunted he proposes and alternate theory:

"Several readers have pointed out another possibility: Nearby Minot is home to the 91st Air Force Space Command, which could be sending out signals that have disrupted the birds' sense of direction."

And of course the signals are directional and not effecting the other two sites.

So how credible is this source? Wiley ends this section of his website with the following:

"Here's another mystery: Why was the CIA using mind control on supermodel Candy Jones?" That is probably a question best answered by Domingo the Hung Flamingo.

Sadly, poor Wiley seems almost sane in comparison to the folks on the forums at Godlike Productions.

Annonymous Coward posted this. "They´re being transported to the ´new earth´. The end times are drawing ever-nearer. The Noah story 2 of each species is an example of this happening in the past. In reality they take more of a kind which is genetically more practical because of the dangers of interbreeding. " Right, and the next you know someone will discover an image of the Virgin Mary in the pelican droppings left behind.

Animal Lover responded. "Look at the alarming rate of declining numbers of Sumatran Tigers, Elephants, Whales, etc. Can you imagine a world without these magnificent beasts? The exodus seems almost planned, maybe to spare them from the bad times coming. Anyone have any other thoughts? Past extinctions.. wonder whether they were fast."

Not to be outdone, old Annonymous reponded: "In Isaiah it tells how god makes a new earth for us to live on. Maybe the time has come for him to populate it." Well, if this is the case and these two posters disappear from earth we will at least know that the the new world will have nuts and fruitcakes.

Finally, someone named Tom who was cruising this forum replied: "Yeah. Idiots did you not read the article in full or research it at all? Did it not say the West Nile virus had killed half the fledglings last year and now scavengers were prowling the nesting areas? Therefore the nesting pairs where abandoning the site. Oops there I go being logical again. It must be the neo cons don´t ya know. IDIOTS!"

Well said, Tom.

You know, I think I'll go back and post my Virgin Mary theory.
