Is It Art?
A section of the World Headquarters building here at The Rare Bird Review is undergoing renovation and the directors are trying to add a little art in places one doesn't normally expect to see it. Mainly - in the "gentlemens'" restrooms.Clark Sorenson, a San Francisco based artist, works in high heat fired porcelain and has created a line of items that blurs the line between art and useful objects as witnessed by the photos to the left.
The items are unique and are limited to editions of "one." While prices are somewhat high for these unique creations the directors argue that their individuality more than makes up for the cost.Shown here are "Easter Lily" (much favored by the Giant Plastic Jesus), "Purple Tulip," and "Morning Glory."
Initial reactions from the employees has varied. Roger, an associate public relations specialist, said "The urinals are fantastic and would add such wonderful color to normally dull rooms."Matt, a summer marketing intern had a slightly different opinion. "My mother would kill me if I peed in a morning glory," he said.
